I AEEED CERTIFIED COURSE ON FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPY REPROCESSING AT NTRA. SRA. de MERITXELL, ANDORRA
On 4 and 5 March, the first training course on flexible endoscope reprocessing accredited by the Spanish Association of Nurses in Digestive Endoscopy (AEEED) was held at the Andorra la Vella hospital in the Principality of Andorra. The course was organized by the hospital, with the technical participation of the company MATACHANA.
More than 40 professionals from the Andorran Health Service attended this course, which combined theoretical and practical aspects related to the cleaning, disinfection, drying and transport of flexible endoscopes, using the ESGENA guidelines as a reference. An update was also given on the microbiology of microorganisms, focusing on the latest alarms detected worldwide and the prevention and education campaigns undertaken, which are vital to understanding, as health professionals, what the aetiology of these microbes is in order to protocolise the appropriate action measures.
Finally, the management of an infectious outbreak in an endoscopy unit, detected after a microbiological culture of the service's endoscopes, was evaluated. Through the clues provided by the microorganisms, the origin of the problem was found and a protocol was established for their decontamination, to return the service situation to normal.
Many thanks to the AEEED for cataloguing this course as an activity promoting development in scientific/technical training for nurses in endoscopy. It is a great recognition for this hospital, for all its professionals and therefore, for the safety achieved for all its patients.
