On 14 and 15 September 2020, the first course on flexible endoscopy reprocessing was held at the SVS Hospital Virgen de los Lirios in Alcoy, Alicante (Spain). Coinciding with the installation of 3 units of CANTEL ISA reprocessors, the hospital, together with the technical participation of MATACHANA, prepared some interesting training sessions with free access to all hospital personnel in the theoretical session and specifically aimed at endoscopy personnel in the intense practical session.

During the course, aspects related to the cleaning, disinfection, drying and transport of flexible endoscopes were combined, using the ESGENA reprocessing guidelines as a reference. An update was also given on clinical microbiology, with a strong focus on the current pandemic and the prevention and education campaigns undertaken, which are vital for understanding and protocolising work guidelines and appropriate prevention measures in these units.

The Asociación Española de Enfermería en Endoscopia Digestiva, AEEED (Association of Nurses in Digestive Endoscopy) has acknowledged this course as a “Developmental activity in scientific/technical training for nurses in endoscopy”, after analysis of the documentation. Furthermore, considering that both the organisation and the topics proposed were consistent with the objective of interrelation and dissemination of knowledge expressed in the AEEED statutes.MATACHANA, together with the Hospital Virgen de los Lirios, is delighted with the recognition received, highlighting the importance of the processes developed in the flexible reprocessing and its crucial impact on patient safety.
