CONFERENCES OF THE CATALONIAN EXPERT GROUP ON STERILIZATION: “Sharing different realities within the RUMED”.

On 20 and 21 October, the Sterilization Conference organised by the Expert Group was held at Colegio de Enfermería de Barcelona (Barcelona College of Nursing).

The different topics were a perfect forum for debate on the usual issues that concern us in our Reprocessing Units, sharing doubts and trying to find solutions to the most common problems. Particularly interesting were the presentations on the management of the reprocessing of material in primary care, the excellent presentation on the new Medical Devices Regulation 2017/745 and the varied session on the circuit of material in transit shown by different hospitals.

We could qualify as personal and visionary, the presentation by Mr. William Leiva, which dealt with the reality and the future of the reprocessing of reusable Medical Devices and from which we drew many positive conclusions.

Among the technical presentations, we highlight the presentation of Mr. Salvador Montilla, MATACHANA Global Product Manager for steam sterilization, who made an insightful presentation on “Automation and robotization in RUMED”. Likewise, Mrs. Elena Lorenzo, Infection Control Manager, participated in an entertaining and, at the same time, didactic round table, where classic doubts from the world of reprocessing were addressed, using new technologies and in a contest format.

We would like to highlight the awards for the best communication of the conference, recognition that went to Emi Sabuco Tebar, Preventive Nurse of the Reina Sofia Hospital in Murcia, as well as the award for the best poster, made and supported by the sterilization staff of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona. Congratulations to all of you for your work!
