On 1 March, the first meeting of reprocessing professionals in Angola took place, organised by YAPAMA, MATACHANA’s distributor in the country. More than 40 health professionals from the sector gathered at the Hotel Trópico in Luanda to discuss and address important matters related to the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of medical devices, as well as waste management in hospitals.
The Head of MIEC, Elena Lorenzo, gave two of the talks of the session, covering topics of interest for the participants. Firstly, she talked about Best international practices for reprocessing medical devices, focusing on the medical device reprocessing cycle and the means and resources we have at international level for establishing correct action protocols.
The second talk focused on the clinical applications of Steam and Low Temperature sterilization, reviewing existing technologies and analysing how each one is used.

The session ended with an interesting presentation by experts from Angola’s Ministry of Health and Environment on the issue of Biosanitary Waste Management in the country. In this case, MATACHANA presented its comprehensive solution for treating sanitary waste, IWIS, which was very well received.
The evaluation of the day was extremely positive and the foundations were laid for the creation of a possible Angolan sterilization association.
