The recent Pan-American Sterilization Congress, held in Mexico City from 30 October to 2 November 2023, was attended by experts and sterilization professionals from MATACHANA, including Salvador Montilla, Global Steam Sterilization Manager, who shared his knowledge on the requirements for the installation of autoclaves, highlighting the regulatory standards, the manufacturer’s experience and ongoing training as key elements for the implementation and efficient operation of state-of-the-art devices.
On the meanwhile, Giovanna Ruiz, Clinical Specialist and in charge of ongoing education for LATAM, highlighted the importance of the automation of instrument washing and the routine indicators that can be used for its monitoring. She also participated as a speaker in the plenary lectures, discussing the operational benefits of automation in RUMED, adapted to the particularities of the region.
The event became a unique showcase to discuss the latest trends in sterilization technologies. It also underlined the imperative need for constant updating, following best practices in infection prevention and the latest industry standards.

This Congress was not only a magnificent opportunity for the exchange of ideas and experiences, but also a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the essential role that sterilization professionals play in preserving the health and well-being of patients in the Latin American region.
Looking ahead, we look forward with anticipation to the next Pan American Congress scheduled for 2025 in Peru.
We extend our congratulations to all participants and scientific associations for organising this event, consolidating MATACHANA’s longstanding commitment to best practices in the medical device reprocessing environment.
