UPDATE ON MEDICAL DEVICE REPROCESSING: MIEC AT GANDIA HOSPITAL, VALENCIA, SPAIN:
On 19 February, the Central Sterilization Department of the Hospital Francesc Borja in Gandía, Valencia, organized an interesting training day which was attended by more than
45 professionals from various departments of the hospital. Since the hospital's RUMED was launched back in 2015, many significant changes have taken place in the reprocessing sector that needed to be reviewed and analyzed. The first part consisted of two theoretical talks where the most current trends in the health panorama were commented on, and which affect the work of the Reprocessing Units. Especially in the new scenario that will be opened with the application of the MDR 2017/745 regulation next May. Subsequently, a review was conducted on the reprocessing of flexible endoscopy, in which the staff of this unit played a very important role.
After the theoretical talks, a more practical part was held, within the flexible endoscopy and sterilization units themselves, to observe circuits, protocols, materials, times... and try to make small changes for large improvements, always with the consensus of all the professionals involved in these extremely important tasks.
We would like to thank the hospital staff for their kind welcome and especially all the assistants and nurses of the flexible Endoscopy Unit and the Sterilization Central, for their commitment and responsibility shown on a daily basis.
In particular, our gratitude and recognition to Mrs. Mª Carmen Benavente Sanchís, Sterilization Supervisor, for her passion and involvement in making her unit a model of good
practices, and therefore, guarantee the safety of its patients.
