MIEC IN BOLIVIA: COMMISSIONING OF THE HOSPITAL UNIVALLE NORTE, COCHABAMBA
UNIVALLE NORTE is a pioneer hospital in Bolivia in the implementation of digitized and integrated operating rooms, as well as in the concept of catering clinic, so it has modern equipment in infrastructure and technology in all areas that make up the hospital complex.
On September 25, 26 and 27, MATACHANA, with the presence of Giovanna Ruiz Beltran, Clinical Specialist for LATAM, carried out a training and familiarization work on the different processes and procedures performed in a RUMED. It is the first hospital in the region to have a 130LF sterilizer for LTSF, a MAT 2314 washer-disinfector and an ultrasonic basin, as well as a MATACHANA SC502 steam sterilizer.
The training served to deepen valuable aspects of LTSF sterilization, such as its excellent penetrability, high material compatibility, occupational safety aspects and proper disposal of the bag with the sterilizing solution once used. Users were able to verify that the LTSF technology is fully monitorable, using chemical process indicators, multivariable indicators, penetrability/Helix test and biological indicators that support and ensure the sterilization process. Another important factor was the recognition of the safety provided by mechanical washing as opposed to manual washing, establishing improvement actions and incorporating the use of equipment such as the ultrasonic basin, reviewing indications of use and applicability of the instruments, as well as the safety provided by the thermodisinfector washers as opposed to manual washing for both medical devices and users.
The RUMED employees strengthened concepts and generalities of the reprocessing of health products as well as their documentation handling. The hospital's human talent, with responsibility and daily commitment, will lead and turn this RUMED into a pioneering unit in the safe reprocessing of medical devices in Bolivia.
